What is stress?
We hear the term stress used a lot but what does it mean and why is it an issue? Stress isn't necessarily a bad thing, it is the body's reaction to feeling threatened or under pressure. It's very common and it can be motivating to help us achieve things in our daily life, it can help us meet the demands of home, work and family life.
Too much stress though, can affect our mood, our body, our relationships and, over time, our health – especially when it feels out of our control. It can make us feel anxious and irritable, and can affect our self-esteem.
Experiencing a lot of stress over a long period of time can leave us feeling exhausted, physically, mentally and emotionally.
Whilst we can't always change the situation we are in, we can adapt how we react to it by taking care of ourselves and increasing our resilience to the stressors.
